Four ways an AI chat can know who you are
A chat can link a conversation to you in 4 ways: an account, a payment, your connection, and the text itself. An anonymous AI chat removes the first 2 by asking for neither, and can avoid keeping a history. It cannot stop a server from seeing the address you connect from, and nothing can stop your own words from identifying you. Anonymous is a property of all 4 together, not of a label.
Searches for an anonymous AI chat usually mean one of 2 things: not being tied to a name, or not leaving a record. The first is easier to get than people expect. The second depends on things only you control.
On this page
1. The account
An account is the strongest link: every conversation is filed under an email address, often with a phone number attached. A chat that opens without sign-up removes this link completely. There is nothing to connect today's questions to yesterday's, or to your name, unless you provide it.
2. The payment
A paid plan needs a card or another payment method, and a payment carries a real name. Even a chat with anonymous free use becomes a named service the moment you subscribe. If anonymity matters more than the paid features, the free version is the anonymous one.
3. Your connection
Every server you talk to sees the address your connection comes from, because that is how the reply finds its way back. What matters is whether that address is kept and joined to the conversation. A VPN replaces your address with the VPN provider's, which moves the question of trust from one company to another; it does not remove it.
4. The text you type
This is the link no service can remove. A question that mentions your employer, your town and your illness identifies you as well as a name would. For a sensitive question, leave out the details that make it yours: the answer to a medical or legal question rarely depends on who is asking.
What this chat does with each of the 4
No account and no profile, so there is nothing to file a conversation under. The free chat needs no card. Chats are kept for 30 days so you can return to them in this browser, then deleted, and nothing ties them to a name. The model runs on our own servers in the Netherlands, so your text is not passed to another AI company. Your connection and your words are the 2 parts that stay yours to manage.
Questions about private AI
Can I use ChatGPT anonymously?
In some countries ChatGPT answers without an account, which removes the account link. Your messages still reach OpenAI, and by default they can be used for training until you switch that off in the browser you use.
Is an anonymous AI chat the same as a private one?
No. Anonymous is about whether a conversation can be tied to you. Private is also about what is logged, used for training and kept. A chat can be anonymous and still keep everything you type.
Does private browsing make an AI chat anonymous?
It stops your own device from keeping history and cookies. It does not change what the chat service receives, which is your connection and your text.
Ask without an account, and leave out the details that make it yours.
